Death of a Salesman

Arthur Millers stopping point of a Salesman focuses on the family as a crucial element; the plot is about the get by of the Loman family. The world of the play takes place in Willy Lomans Yonkers home. Here, he is dealt with the constant struggle to be a success for his family and to lug his idea of the American Dream onto his sons, paper bag and Happy. He wants Biff to be a success as he portrays himself to be and can non understand why Biff would rather work as a farm hand instead of working a desk job, moving up and become a success.

The crisis appears in the beginning of Act 2, when Willy goes to his boss, Howard, to demand that he stays in New York and not travel anymore. When his demands are not met, Willy gets angry and argues with Howard. This is when Howard admits that he has wanted to fire Willy so he can rest.

Howard: I dont want you to set us. Ive been meaning to tell you for a long time now.
